Respect for Sisters?

24 Sep

Respect is easy to give-  to those outside our family.  It’s easy to see the best in others and only the worst in those we live with.  This is an area I need to work on…a lot.  I have a very nasty, sinful habit of putting down my sisters or making fun of them.  I have improved some but still have a long way to go.  The worst part is, I know the root of the problem- it’s pride.  No one likes to admit they are prideful, but sometimes that’s the truth.  The world might tell me that it’s not that big of a deal, but God’s Word says otherwise:

Psalms 138:6
Though the LORD is on high, he looks upon the
lowly, but the proud he knows from afar

Proverbs 11:2
When pride comes, then comes disgrace, but
with humility comes wisdom.

On the other hand, here’s what the Bible says on humbleness:

Psalms 37:11
But the meek will inherit the land and enjoy great peace.

Psalms 138:6
Though the LORD is on high, he looks upon the
lowly, but the proud he knows from afar.

Psalms 149:4
For the LORD takes delight in his people; he
crowns the humble with salvation.

I want to be humble.  To count my family members more important than myself. I want to set a godly example for my younger sisters.  I want to love them like Christ does.

Philippians 2:3-11

Do nothing from selfish ambition or conceit, but in humility count others more significant than yourselves. Let each of you look not only to his own interests, but also to the interests of others. Have this mind among yourselves, which is yours in Christ Jesus,  who, though he was in the form of God, did not count equality with God a thing to be grasped, but emptied himself, by taking the form of a servant, being born in the likeness of men. And being found in human form, he humbled himself by becoming obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross. Therefore God has highly exalted him and bestowed on him the name that is above every name, so that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.
